Germany to Implement X-Ray Scanners for Counter-Strike 2 Loot Containers
German players of Counter-Strike 2 will soon gain access to a new feature: an 'X-ray scanner' designed to reveal the contents of in-game containers prior to their purchase. While seemingly beneficial for avoiding unwanted cosmetic items, this implementation comes with a critical stipulation that limits player choice.
According to official information, once a container's contents are viewed via the scanner, players are obligated to acquire that specific item before they can examine any other containers. This system prevents players from previewing multiple containers to select desired items, effectively maintaining the element of chance in acquisition, albeit with prior knowledge of the outcome. This mechanism, first introduced in France in 2019, is widely seen as a response to evolving legal frameworks surrounding loot boxes and their resemblance to gambling, rather than a fundamental shift in the game's monetization model.
