GameStop's Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon Event Encountering Distribution Issues
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company recently unveiled a new Pokémon game alongside an announcement for a Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon giveaway for players of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Unlike past events where players could earn Shiny Treasures of Ruin through Tera raids or receive them via Mystery Gifts, this particular promotion requires trainers to visit physical retail locations, specifically GameStop and EB Games, to claim their Shiny box legendaries.
The distribution event, scheduled from September 26 to October 15, will see GameStop in the United States and EB Games in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand offering redeemable codes for Shiny Koraidon or Miraidon. Similar giveaways are also planned for various game stores in Japan. However, despite the official start date, some GameStop outlets have reportedly begun distributing these codes prematurely. This early release has led to a situation where some locations have already depleted their stock of 50 codes, frustrating fans who were looking forward to participating in the event. This issue is compounded by the fact that the giveaway is limited to specific countries, leaving many international players feeling excluded.
The uneven distribution has unfortunately opened the door for scalpers, who are now listing these codes on platforms like eBay, demanding prices ranging from $30 to $40 for a single Shiny Pokémon. While in-store giveaways are not new for Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, this specific method for obtaining the Shiny Koraidons and Miraidons has caused considerable discontent among the player base, particularly in contrast to the more accessible Mystery Gift distributions of other legendary Pokémon. Players eager to add a new Shiny legendary to their collection are now left hoping their local GameStop or EB Games still has codes available when the promotion officially begins.
